Tipper Gore
Back
Tipper Gore, having a degree in psychology, is an avid advocate of mental health and removing the stigma around treatment, she has also advocated for AIDS awareness and gay marriage rights. She has also held a job doing freelance photography, and played the drums in a high-school band.
Widely considered a prude and hater of rock music, Tipper Gore co-founded the Parents Music Resource Centre with the intention of beginning a voluntary industry initiative to place a sticker (originally aiming for an entire warning system) on music which might contain explicit lyrics or content. Though her work on this front was considered controversial, Tipper did not actually aim for censorship in any respect (in fact she decried censorship) as many critics claim. You can read more on my thoughts on the PMRC's battle with the industry here. Tipper's stances on "objectionable" rock music can be best understood through this article which is hosted on the site this page took its inspiration from.
Tipper has written multiple books, including "Joined at the Heart: The Transformation of the American Family" and "The Spirit of Family" with her now-ex husband Al Gore, "Raising PG kids in an X-rated Society", and "Picture This: a Visual Diary".
Ever thought "man that parental advisory sticker looks fuckin sick"? well dont forget to add "Thank you Tipper!"
